Ready to find your bearing?
helm. started with a simple question: if we can't control the wind, can we still adjust the sails? A 19th-century saying, made for today's moment—reorgs, layoffs, AI, professions rewritten. The old playbook is out, and the new one? TBD.
helm. exists to help you find your bearing despite the change. We can't calm the seas. Storms come and go. But amid uncertainty, we can help you find what's yours to steer.
Your vision, your strengths, your course. Still at the helm.

For those times in the messy middle between
no longer and not yet.
You had plans. They changed—by force, by design, or by choice. That space between no longer and not yet is uncomfortable — and sometimes even a little exhilarating. It can shake your confidence and cloud your thinking. But it can also open up something new. Ambiguity doesn't have to mean lost. Finding your bearing gives you a way through.

Hello, Bonjour!
I'm Kristina Mausser, founder of helm.—
I help you adjust your sails, not just hold a fixed course.
My entire career has been built on disruption. I started out navigating corporate buyouts and restructuring—the start of what became a wave of "new normal"—and I learned early that change is constant, career playbooks need rewriting, and jungle gyms are replacing traditional ladders.
I spent 25 years in tech and design—running my own international business, then helping scale Shopify through its early AI products—before founding helm. Along the way, I learned the best response to change isn't resistance. It's adjustment.
The framed quote "you can't control the wind, but you can adjust the sails" sat on my desk at that very first job. Funnily enough, I don't know how to sail, and I don't own a boat. That's because I didn't need to — some truths don't require the literal experience to land. But sometimes the wisdom of the past is just what you need to help navigate today's here and now. Because I believe human adaptability and ingenuity always find a way forward, toward whatever new horizons lie ahead.
